An Alchemist’s Quest

Is how Rodolphe Frèrejean-Taittinger described the making of French Bloom La Cuvée - the world’s first vintage sparkling alcohol-free wine, on sale in Harrods at £109.

Four years in R&D, La Cuvée is the concept and creation of visionary (some would say mad!), talented and engaging husband and wife team, Maggie and Rodolphe.  They use 100% ‘big shouldered’ Chardonnay grapes from sunny Limoux in the Languedoc and Burgundian barrels to create an exaggerated wine which is then dealcoholised via a triple cold vacuum distillation. Their goal was to create a complex, layered, fresh no alcohol wine with good acidity and drinkability that can successfully partner a meal.  So did they succeed in turning their base wine into liquid gold?  Give it a Google, and see what the Press have been saying.
