Can You Taste Chilean Terroir?
Ventisquero’s Felipe Tosso teamed up with expert moderator Tim Atkin MW and revered soil specialist Professor Alex Maltman to dig deep (see what we did there!) into that ever-intriguing ‘can you taste terroir’ question.
A full complement of Press and Trade guests blind-tasted their way through four flights of three wines. Each flight featured wines from the same soil type - two drawn from the Ventisquero portfolio, and an additional bottle chosen by Tim as being a good representation of that particular terroir. By the end of the exercise, much lively debate had been entered into, much fist pumping had taken place for correct deductions, but no compelling conclusions had been drawn one way or the other. It was unanimously agreed, however, that all the wines that day shone. The tasting wrapped up with the launch of Ventisquero’s new Kosten wines from Chile’s most southerly vineyards in Chile Chico, Patagonia. This boundary breaking winery also produces the Tara range from Chile’s most northerly commercial vineyards in the world’s driest desert: the Atacama. EW
