Celebrating A Decade Of Coravin

“The revolution that you’ve caused in hospitality is fantastic. When you go out to eat and you can choose between glasses without shelling out for a whole bottle… bless you, thank you.” Jancis Robinson, 31.10.23

This week, Greg Lambrecht once again hit London town - this time to celebrate a decade of Coravin.

ewpr invited the great and good of the wine writing and sommelier worlds to raise a glass to the device that changed the way we drink, taste and serve wine. Guests embarked on a tasting of wines that told the Coravin tale - from the reds that convinced Jancis Robinson and Sketch’s Fred Brugues, to the Austrian Sauvignon Blanc whose Vinolok closure broke the needle of the original model and inspired Pivot, to the fizzes that led to Coravin Sparkling. The tasting culminated in a triangular blind tasting of Australian Shiraz from the 2002 vintage, which Greg had accessed 19 years ago and brought from his own cellar.

Greg showed everyone the initial prototype - called the ‘wine mosquito’ by his then 3-year-old son - and also demonstrated how to use the Coravin Timeless properly: use short bursts and keep it clean! Finally, everyone left with a goody bag of wines bottled in 100ml tubes from Greg’s latest invention, the Coravin Vinitas, with instructions to open them in 12 months’ time…

So, next time you’re in a restaurant enjoying the by-the-glass menu, raise that glass to Greg and Coravin!
